I just got him a few days ago. Please no hating on tank size. I'm going to get a 6ft kiddie pool for him very soon. His fins are a little torn up, I'm hoping that they will heal quickly

Sounds like you have a good plan for him. Just make sure whatever kiddie pool you get is at least 2-3' deep at least. Looking good. Keep us updated!

Cool. I really like these cats. If only they maxed out at 30".

Yeah that's how big you'd hope to raise a RTC, but honestly even in all the aquariums with 10,000 gals + I've been to around the world I have never seen one even close to that size. Maybe 4' max is what I have seen in captivity. Not saying it isn't possible, but good luck with that lol. Would require you to raise your RTC in optimal conditions for 30 or more years!!! I'd really like to see it happen, but doubt I ever will! An 80 pounder maybe, but the one in the pic is just a pipe dream for nearly any fish keeper on the planet. Just not gonna happen. That my friend's is a genetic freak!

Today I saw a golden RTC at the lfs. They said that they get 18".
They don't look nearly as cool as the normal ones though.

Get some pics cause I doubt it is a south american RTC unless you lfs knows nothing about them. probably a Hemibagrus nemurus, or a Horabagrus brachysoma from the sounds of it. The first one is often sold in albino form, and the second one is golden with a red tail. Also has a black spot on it's side

The above link even says a common name is the Golden RTC. Never heard one called that but makes sense. I have two. One is 10" the other one is 12". Hope I can grow them out past the full size listed for them!!!

Cute lil guy!

haha thanks, but he won't be cute for long :D

Thanks man. The kiddie pool I'm gonna get is actually 6'x15", I'm thinking it should be able to house him until he is about 12-14". After that he will be going into a large intex pool or above ground pond.

I will continue to post lots of pictures as he grows, in fact I'm thinking of making a grow out thread.
