Heres an update on my female salvini...

She doesn't appear to have much red in her.. would you say thats good or bad?

She looks good to me. It's not a bad thing, just the her variation. I love a lot of yellow and blue too. How is she w/ the meeki? Still really aggressive? I really want to do a salvini/meeki tank.

Pound for pound I found Salvini's as tough as any fish out there. When my male would hit the tank it sounded like a hammer hitting the glass. Great fish

This is what a lot of people say, but I've had a very different experience w/ them. I've owned 3 and lost them to lesser aggressive cichlids. I even had a firemouth beat one up badly. I just bought another hoping to grow it out.

Tank-raised salvini or any fish for that matter are typically less aggressive than ones closer to wild stock. Store bought convicts for instance are pansies compared to the F1's I had. I think the best example is Pseudotropheus demasoni from Lake Malawi. I had F1's that were HELL on each other...I later had tank-raised and they barely even flared fins at each other.

I have some F1 salvini from Grijalva (Rusty Wessel's wild pair's fry) and they're mean as heck! At 3/4" they were lip-locking and the dominant one almost killed all of its siblings. I managed to save a couple and nurse them back to health. lol Now the biggest is about 1.5" and terrorizes everything in the grow out tank it's in. lol Mean little suckers, even when they're the smallest in the tank!
