i like the drift wood on top. never tried it before. good idea

Watch for the algae growth on the wood as it will become a algae farm right under the lighting. It also may become a farm bed for floating algae--which will destroy your water!

I love these 2 pieces of driftwood. They were pulled from a shipwreck right off the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, and ended up at a flea market. I bought these 2 pieces and a smaller floating one for my turtle tank for 8 dollars. After soaking them in scalding hot water in a bathtub for a few hours, I turned on the shower water as hot as possible and left it for a while. I then did a water change on the 55 into a large tub, and soaked the wood there for a few hours. The smaller piece was very heavy and sunk right away, but it seemed as if nothing would hold the big piec down. After a few minutes of struggling, I decided it looked better as a bigger floating piece. It adds to the river feel of the tank, which I have been planning for a while.

Thanks for the advice, I will keep a close watch for algae. The wood is kept mostly underwater by the middle support of the 55, so when I get a few plecos they shouls take care of a lot of the algae. My pleco in the 10g loves the wood as does the turtle.
