Well actually. The glass is 3/4" thick. Plus the weight is being spread on the sand.

I wouldnt put in live plants because of the loaches and the alge eater.
Just go buy some fake plants at your LFS the bigger the better I always say

Your tank looks nice. I like plants too but my cichlids either rip them out or eat them down to nubs. I have fake ones that are anchored deep. I never have any problems with them.
