One other question please about water temperature and seasonal changes.

ive just found out that the heater has been off on this fish since may and kept at room temp in the uk which would be around 20 ish give it take. I am keeping her in my gym/garage which is colder but I’ve put a heater in to stop it going below 19 although for the last few days it’s been about 18-19. I’ve only just found out her “winter” period started in may so my question is:

How long should the winter period be for these fish?
How long should be the summer period and what temp?
When taking her out of the winter period do I raise the temp slowley?

thanks all

winter season reaching around 16.7-18.3°C (62-65°F) and a summer season reaching around 26.7-27.8°C (80-82°F)
Im not sure how long but i think you can do 1/3 cold and 2/3 warmer of the year
just let it slowy rise up from 17 to 26.

If I follow the seasons then as the heater was turned off in may it would have had its summer temps as it was pretty hot here in the UK at times and it was indoors. Now it’s in my garage so temperatures are around 17-19 with a heater so it’s kind of having its winter. Just not sure when to start heating it back up.

So update. I’ve moved her to a 4 foot 250 litre aquarium. She has tons of space now and I hope it lasts her for the foreseeable future. It seems more than big enough for her. Tank size is 120 x 45 x 55 and as she’s about 9 inches it should be ok. I could probably move her to my 5ft ina few years when I upgrade that but for a while she will be fine. Also she is eating fine now, she’s on massivore pellets with the odd earthworm.

Thought I would share a photo of her new tank. I hope this will last her a few years! I’ve heavily planted it for her with loads of floating plants too. She seems happy and eating well.
