Cute little guy, I miss having Painted Turtles. I almost picked up one of these at a show I was at last month but I bought a Red Cheek Mud Turtle instead.

The heat from the ligth aint enough as will not retain far during the nigth and its still kind of low. You can icrease the water deaph to about 10cm wich is enough for a water heater layed down. And you should like bare botom. Substrate aint anithing but trobble with turts

I raised the water level and added a heater on its side set for 78 degrees. Also picked up a couple small silk plants which I will be adding tonight, as well as removing all of the red gravel. I'll try to get some new pics of the set-up online in a day or two.

...Get some plastic or real plants and let them float many baby turts like to hang in there...

Red gravel is gone, fake plant is in, Reptisun 5.0 is up and the water has a heater Its still not the prettiest set-up, but once he gets a bit bigger and stronger hes moving to a 20G long and the wheels are turning in my head already... it should be good

i loved my painted turtles. i used to have 4 of them. i used to catch them when they were real small. prob a little bigger than that from a river about 45 mins from my house. used to go out in a canoe and catch them with the paddles or a net. they were great so interactive. even my grandmother loved them!
