hi , i just wanted to share my diy stand and second hand tank build with you guys . so my vieja synspilum ( Melvin ) had out grown his old 35 gal tank and was starting to look a little to big for it so i bought a 4' x 2' x 2' second hand tank for him off of ebay the tank came with a FX5 filter and another 3' tank all for £175 ...Bargin . so i did some reading thourgh the diy stand section and picked up some good ideas and some usefull tips . so off i went to the wood yard to get some 3" x 2" timber P4210005.JPGhere is a pic of the tank and the wood all cut up ready to be put together, more to come , the garage has had a good tidy since then

That tank looks like it weighs a ton! That's some serious bracing on there

jealous. i so badly want a 4 x 2 x 2. nice build so far.

we then put the tank in position and started the fill P4260076.JPG i alwas find this the most exiting time . the tank holds 453 liters or 100 uk gallons , thats 120 us gallons , still need to put some skirting board on in the room aswell

the FX5 came with no media only the sponges that fit around the edge so i filled it with filter floss and carbon in the top basket then lytag which is little clay balls that my lfs use in all they tanks and they buy it in buy the tonne , i think its used a lot for a cheap pond media , then in the bottom basket i used half a tin of eheim substrat pro and a load more filter floss . as you can see from the pics iv had to sit the filter on a old plastic box , this is because the guy who owned it first cut the inlet pipe that short it is only just long enough , why he did is i dont know but it made setting it up quite difficult
