my new tank build 4'x2'x2'

Don't mean to be critical, but I would get some plywood on that base ASAP! It could fold like an accordian with that weight on it. I have seen it many times with second rate construction crews that put a roof on before sheeting the walls.....down she comes.

how do you mean fold like an accordian , i did plenty of research and 10 pices of 3"x2" could support a lorry , but i do agree it could do with some diagonal supports . people buy 400 liter juwel aquariums all the time and there cabinets are made of chipboard , no timber supports in them

Not only would side and front paneling add support/structure, I think it will look a lot nicer too. :) By folding like an accordion I believe they mean with the weight above the stand, if it were to let out and not hold the stand would "twist" and come down. With solid sheets of square plywood screwed to the horizontal and vertical pieces it would prevent the possibility of any "twist" effect.

Also your frame looks really nice and the tank looks real nice for being used and great deal that it comes with the Fx5.

It was answered, but just because the studs have huge vertical strength, doesn't mean the nails/screws holding it together will keep it from twisting or falling sideways. No way would I fill that tank without some form of diagonal bracing.

iv taken your advice and put a couple of diagonal braces in this morning P7190023.JPG im going to put anoter one in on the right hand side next time i move the filter for cleaning , the thing must way 25kg when its full

Putting some panels on the outside made my stand much more resistant to lateral movement, theoretically the wood can support the weight but only if it stays vertical. Here's a few shots of my stand to illustrate the visual and structural benefits of the final product. If you've got the means I suggest going for it
