A live mouse is no threat to a bird eater. I had a zebra for a while and while I never tried it I'd bet money he could have taken a mouse. Zebra's aren't even as mean as cobalt's and the bird eater is the baddest of the bad. Nice animal man. You had a lot of other spiders?

That is very untrue! A large mouse like that can do major damage to any spider, no matter the size. If the spider only bites the mouse on the leg, the mouse has free use of its teeth to bite the spider. I've seen it before. The spider can lose legs, or possibly be injured in a vital area such as the abdomen.
If feeding a mouse, a pinkie is the safest for the spider.

Crickets, cockroaches, mealworms (which can also bite, and even kill and eat slings) superworms, and other insects like grasshoppers and locusts are best. Some people also feed lizards occasionally, such as anoles and geckos, although there is also the potential for injury to the spider when feeding these.

Hi,yes what Longimanis said is true tarants are easily injured with prey big like a mouse, they have delicate body structure and feeding live animals the size of a mouse or bigger should be avoided.

The prey, no matter what it is should never be bigger then the body of the tarantula not including the legs. I personally would never feed a mouse again to any of of my 112 tarantulas. We feed pinkies to 4 of our tarantulas and 2 died. The place that we got them at we figured had used mite spray either on the pinkies or in the container. It was fairly quick how fast the poison worked on the tarantulas. Within mins the spiders where in a death curl.

I also agree that it is too much calcium for a tarantula if fed a constant diet of mice.
