so can these guys live fresh or salt? or is this different from the saltwater tarpon I'm familiar with?
Rav

This one is an indo tarpon which is a smaller growin sp than the atlantic's you are used to...... Both sp can actually can live in both fresh and salt for life. But indos are ushally the only ones found in pure fresh at full size..... also the indo tarpon is ushally the only one found in the aquarium trade.

Sweet tarp! I hope you have plans for a big tank though these guys grow pretty quick.

Very cool. What are the future plans?
Well i know for a fact i cant house this beast for life on account of they get 4ft+ and would need an olympic swimming pool to truly be happy. If he outgrows my 280gallon he will end up in my local city's aquarium

If anyone has any care tips for this little guy please share i did alot of research but couldn't get as much as i would like

It suck's there not very much info on the net about this fish there super cool but they require a little more care than other fish. But here is my personal experincee with indo tarpons (The same works for atlantics as well)

ph
I think the most important thing I can say about this fish is the PH. since they are really a saltwater fish the need a higher ph than a fish that ONLY lives in freshwater(becides some cichlids.) anything above 7.5 is good.

tankmates
As far as tankmates go they have to be fairly peacefull.. tarpon are wimps and cannot hold there own against agressive fish. But dont put them in with tetra's they will get eatten, tarpon's are still pred's

food
It really dosent matter what you feed them. They eat everything. But they seem to like krill and deffosted shrimp best but there not picky as long as it meatly. I trained mine onto shrimp by tossing in little bits of shrimp one at a time every day untill they ate it. Its a fairly easy matter to get them onot frozen food's. They also love feeder's but they need ALOT of rosies to fill them up so its best of you dont need feeder's.

thank size/decor

They swim alot! So a wide tank is a must (18inches wide and 4 long at the least for a small fish sub 8 inches more for a big one) and try to keep the tank open so the have lots of room to swim. Also it really helps if you black out the sides the cant seem to figure out that they cant swim though glass....Thats what most captive tarpon you see have hasty sore's on there chin's

I think thats about it so goodluck!! and if you have any more questions just ask. :D
