Either way they're awesome fish. I had a pair of texas once. They had a batch of fry and were awesome parents. May I suggest some darker substrate and an actinic light? THat would bring out the colors on them when they are mature!

both the cyano and carpintes are both texas cichlids just 2 different types. just that fact that when people got into flowerhorns or red texas they want to be different because they think theyre scientist

If you want to call a fish a Texas cichlid when its from a completely different country then go ahead, Who am I to stop you from sharing your lack of knowledge.

I just like to clarify what a Texas cichlid (Herichthys cyanoguttatu) is because too often Herichthys cyanoguttatus and Herichthys carpintis are crossed unknowing and create a bland looking Carpintis which ruin the bloodlines.

Technically, if the two species crossed wouldn't they NOT be a carpintis?

And who said they look bland? This is a cyano X carpintis that Armac bred himself...

Back on topic, nice little Herichthys you have there. I'd make sure to watch their eating habits for a few weeks and make sure they're defecating. With the sunken bellies like that they could have parasites. Keep an eye on them, hopefully they were just underfed.
