Ugh, RIP. I woke up to him laying/half swimming upside down yesterday morning with a huge red gash/bump on his head, the glass top moved 3 inches off track, heaters knocked off the glass, and all the wood in a different spot.

I can only assume he flipped out overnight for some reason and went ape s***, knocking himself silly in the process. I had to put him down after watching him flop around for a day and a half with no improvement.

I'm depressed now, I really liked this guy and I have no idea what to do next. Rapps doesn't have any trimacs on his list, so I guess I wait for now. I'll more than likely get another, he was a lot of fun.

Either another trimac, a gold barred midas from Rapps, or possibly a solo parrot (hoplarchus psittacus). I don't know much about parrots other than they look amazing, but I doubt they'd be on the same level of interaction as an amph. Any suggestions from the group?

Well the Trimac you will have to wait for. So for instant gratification go with the Barred Midas. Both Rapps and COTA has those. You ever thought of a Chancho?

About six months ago My friend picked up a Jeff rapps Male Trimac and its prob the best one ive ever seen! Your going to love it!

He got his from Rapps. It just died... And now Rapps doesn't have anymore. So he is trying to figure out what to get next.

I may just wait for another trimac to show up on his list. I've been looking around all day today, and the only real thing that's caught my eye would be maybe an istlanum or a golden jaguar. Not really sure how they look fully grown, as most of the online pics are of smaller fish.

I really want the outgoing nature of my trimac, but I admit I'm not personally in love with the midas head shape. Not a big nuchal hump fan, so that kind of leaves out the whole RD/midas/chancho group for the most part. I did see some really nice looking gold barred midas, so it's safe to say I'm a little undecided there.

Anyone have any other recommendations, or should I just hang on for another trimac? My other thought would be a female rio mag umbee since it wouldn't be insanely large as a male, but I have never really seen how females interact with people. Are they as outgoing as amphs?

Amphilophus Lyonsi don't get the huge hump. And have a good personality. Plus they are not common. They also stay under 12". COTA has some. Another option if you like the mass w/o the hump would be like a Texas Cichlid or Carpentis. I think either Rapps or COTA has some F0 or F1 Carpentis. A side note would be have you thought of looking I'd Don Conkel has some Trimacs?
