If you bought it from a LFS then most likely its a hybrid/flowerhorn. The only way you get a true trimac is from a breeder who has pure parents. Jeff Rapps and FishFarm are two of the best in the business and have beautiful trimacs. I got mine from Rapps and its an absolute beast.

I have to agree with the store person, it must be a TRIMAC......Any "flowerhorn" that size, looking like that, is a low grade.......I would pay $4.99-8.99 for a fish like that.......Your fish looks like in the vicinity of 3 inches, right.......$20 is a definate rip off if sold as a flowerhorn.........Then again, $20 for a juvenile trimac is also a rip........Looks like a female too.........Most well-gened male start growing a nuchal hump at around 2-3 inches.....Hey, keep taking pictures of the little booger as she grows up...You nver know, it may blossom into one of those rainbow monsters we see tankbusting Japanese tanks...........

that is no female, 100% male and trimac. when i sold all my fry to lfs at 1.5" they were going for $8 a piece. 20 is not a bad price for a male that will look awesome. in time.
if it quacks like a duck , its probably a duck. looks trimac to me and has less flowerlines too . trimac means three spot cichlid and before you could find them around .all the trimacs now have more flowerlines or spots . i bought some that had a golder tint to them like yours . just feed him and wait ,good luck bro ....
I'll be honest I can't tell the difference between what some would term "low grade" FHs and regular Trimacs. I've read various write up's on the differences when I used to keep them, but its hard to tell. Either way there amazing and fun fish. Good luck!
