Alright guys, i got a hell of a deal on a 55 gallon tank (48"x13"x21") with a rod iron base stand on craigslist for $75! :nilly:

It was a great deal and i couldn't give it up so here it is currently in my garage holding water. There isn't any signs of leakage:

Since this is my first 55 gallon tank, im questioning myself on the filter im currently looking at buying and wondering if it will be enough for my stock.
Marineland emperor 400 power filter. Does 400 GPH and it is rated up to 90 gallons from what i read.
- Will this be enough for my stock? (Fish are in sig and will be transfered into the 55)

- As for substrate, im interested in pea gravel. Im thinking a few bags from petco or petsmart should do it. The brand i've been looking at for the pea gravel is call "CaribSea"

- Another question i have is heating. What would yall recommend on a decent heater for a 55 gallon? Im assuming something like a 200w heater?
And is there any brands you would recommend?

- Once again, this is my first 55 gallon tank so any input is appreciated! :)

Congrats! I have a fluval E series 300w in my tank. The M series is good as well. I recommend 300w just to assure that your heater won't be working as hard to heat the water.

Congrats there! Hope to see it set up soon. And I know the excitement about getting a new tank, couldn't sleep the day before mine.

Congrats on the new tank.

You have a few fish that can get pretty large in there so you will need some heavy filtration. I dont think a single Emperor 400 would not be enough in the long term. Possibly 2 of them might keep things looking good, but realistically the clown knife at some point will grow too large and even the Sun cat might be too much for that tank.

Thanks everyone!

- And yea, i know the clown knife is most likely gonna leave awhile down the road. I know alot of people around here with big tanks so i'll worry about that part when it comes lol.
- And i agree with the 300w heater, wont work as hard..

What kind of pea gravel are you all using? Any input on different substrates?

I know im over-posting on my own thread but i just cant stop thinking about my stock being moved into my new tank :)

Does anyone else think that maybe possibly, depending on my aquascpaing, that my pair of convicts could possibly spawn? - I have seen signs in the tank they are currently in.
The female has an orange/pink coloring to the side of her body. Sometimes i see them swimming still together, other times there away from each other.

Im hoping since im upgrading to a bigger tank that there could possibly be spawning between them.

Anyone else think the same?
