My new upgrade!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You should probably leave the convicts in the tank they are already in and let them become parents, their damn good ones. Plus the colors they get are amazing, specially the female.

For the 55 definately go with a 300W heater. The emperor 400 is probably not enough though, id look into a canister as well. Rena XP3 is great and costs around $120, or for cheaper AquaClear 110 can be found for around $70 and is a far superior HOB filter than the emperor 400.

Thats a good idea about the convicts i cant believe i never thought about that lol.
And i agree with you on the aquaclear 110. Im on a tight budget so HOB filter is the way right now unfortunatly...
- Apparently their uncommon or something cause im always seeing marineland, tetra, and aqueon products..
Im doing all my shopping tomorrow so i'll keep yall updated.

Did my shoppin today and picked up:
- fluval 300w heater
- aqueon 55/75 400gph (it was only 40 bucks i couldnt pass it up and it was the last one)
- more pea gravel for the bigger tank
- magnet for cleaning the sides
- 2 cambomba (sp?) live plants
- a couple fake plants
- and 3 golden snails

Heater and filter are currently running to cycle the tank.

You should put the whole heater in water for better result
lol its funny you said that because as soon as i posted my last message, its just about fully submersed in the tank as i speak :)

Temp is about 77 degrees F as of this morning, will be updating pics of the gravel and the plants very soon :headbang2

On my spare 55, I have two relatively big filters one on each side and two heaters (200w each) on each side of the tank...this gives me stable water temperatures, and the heaters do not have to work as hard, as well as backup if one heater were to fail.

You're lucky, i wish i had 2 filters man but moneys tight around here...
Im thinking about taking the filter from my 30 gallon and putting it in my new 55 gallon... Haven't decided yet

I understand...just bear in mind for future with your stock of fish, it's better to be over-filtered than under-filtered. Good luck.
