Sadly, they probably will. CA guys for some reason were never generally big on keeping races separate like you see with Westie keepers or apisto guys.

That is a good looking fish. Mine looks similar, I think, but they are only two colors instead of three. Seeing your fish has sparked my interest in my fish even more. Thanks

Cool... Well I hope we don't get mixes or cross breeds the yellow Mel (formally melanurus) with the red blue Mel (formally synspilus)
I think that ship has sailed. There are not many people who keep species separated by regions in their aquarium. The slicing of the Melanurus is already pretty deep. If you looked at that link I attached previously, Willem Heijns showed over a dozen regional and color variants. I said it before...but the common Convict sold today is likely a hybrid by all technical definition. So the melanurus/synspilum.... unless you know where it originated, you really would never know.
