How long have you had yours? Mine drifts around in the plants most of the day, but I don't really consider it hiding.

Few days over a month. He sits in the pvc pipes till it's time to eat. I see him come out at night sometimes too. He used to sit in the plants but the others no respect for plants so I had to take them out.

I would imagine if you add the plants again he would come out more. My bichirs really seem to enjoy the cover that the plants offer.

They're in a grow out tank for now so I'll just let them stick in the pipes. But I definitely do plan to put them back in the next tank. Very nice hiding spots in the plants.

Measured him today and he is just over 7". He is growing much faster than my Endlis. He has also grown external lungs in the last couple of days. Odd as his tank is aerated with a large sponge filter and air stone.

You can see the Gills starting grow.

They do, although I've heard some rare cases where they grew back. No idea why it did.

Interesting. Some of my polys kept their external gills longer than others, but I've never seen them grow back. Also never had them on a specimen over 6".
