Had been looking for a new addition to my 180G. Found this happy little fella swimming with some other large cichlids and some catfish at my LFS (Fish Doctors).

We went with intentions of getting a school of Angels for our 55g, which we did. But as usual, I came home with one also.

Looking for opinions also, on what would be another addition? I have a Florida Gar, Common pleco, RTC, and now the JD. I would like to get 1 more Gar, and maybe 1 other, but not sure what.... anyone?

Get rid of the rtc ASAP. He will outgrow the tank in a matter of months and eat all your tankmates. Another gar would work, also another similar sized similar temperament cichlid will do, such as a green terror.

I seen they had a green terror also, but he was a bit small for my tank. Ill have to keep an eye out if they get a bigger one in... as far as the RTC. He is going to stay.. had him for awhile now. Upgraded tanks once already just for him (unlike most that have them, i have/had the means to keep him, and upgrade as necessary). After he outgrows the 180. They will all be upgraded to a "house pond"/outdoor pond pending the outdoor. Those plans are in the works. He fits in very well in the 180, doesnt bother anybody.

I have 3 substrates.. The larger light colored stone was a petsmart store bought, leftover from another tank. That was more of a filler. The rest is a mixture of 100lbs of "medium" sand from Home Depot, and 50lbs of "all-purpose" sand, also from HD.
I look at it this way, I could pay $20 for a 25lb of substrate from a LFS, which would total well over $100... Or swing by HD or Lowes and get what I need (around 150lbs) for around $10

Stopped at Petsmart tonight, had a decent sale on some fish. Got a handful of Red Minor Tetras to give the new Angels some friends in the 55. After that we stopped at University Aquarium in Ann Arbor, had a few nice cichlids... none large enough for my tank unfortunantly

Nice jd, looks much better than mine...

I wouldn't consider JD a wet pet because JD is shy to the point of skiddish if he feels insecure.

Well maybe I got a special JD! He is far from shy... I would use the words cautiously curious! But if I am anywhere around my tank, he is front and center wondering what im doing. Now my 15" Common Pleco... hes skiddish n shy!
