79F-80F is alot better for the fish. I still say its something internal.

I'm going to lower my temperature then. The thing is, I've always had my tank at higher temperatures. He looks decent but not skinny. I've had a super skinny NGT before because it didn't eat for 4 months.

Here's a couple of photos.

You're right. He's not skinny. Could be the internal parasite. :( Just make sure to thaw thaw the food completely before you feed them, and ask everyone not to spray it with ant spray. It happened to a friend of mine. His bowl of shrimp was covered with ants, and his kid saw it, sprayed it, but didn't let him know. Killed one of his pride fish :(

sorry to hear bro

I have had my freshwater moray die on me because the water was 86F but never a datnoide.

Could be a victim of internal parasites or something internal.

Yeah, it could definitely be internal. I will definitely lower the temperature as well. The only reason why I have such a high temperature is because I have read around here that a higher temperature will speed up a fish's metabolism resulting to it eating more. They are fed twice a day and almost all of them are fat.

Ant spray? I don't think I know what that is.

What I actually do with frozen food is I let it run under running water for a minute then I let is soak in a cup. If it already feels thawed, that's when I do a final rinse and drop it off in the tank.

Now I'm really worried about the widebars...

Thanks bud. I'm trying to keep a good spirit about the NGT but I'm definitely worried about the widebars.

Do you feed market shrimp with the shell on? The tail of the market shrimp can be pretty sharp sometimes. I've been stabbed many times when prepping food for my fishes.

Sorry for your loss. :(

I completely de-shell each shrimp before I feed it to my fish. I even cut it up because they are too big for my dats.

Thanks the sympathy

wow sorry for the loss noah.......I wouldn't say internal though I mean, I dont think a dat would be fine one second and then die in minutes... internal parasites would normally take a bit longer than a sudden death thing.. you would also see signs sooner. the fish doesn't look malnurished I mean you've had it for like what at least 2-3 months and it still looks normal not skinny at all. is it possible that the dat could've choked is that possible or you told me you did a 50% water change was this prior to it swimming funny???

I had an ST a while back atleast 3 years ago it did kinda like the same thing it looked fine then all of a sudden just started swiming funny; I always thought that it choked to death because I had just fed them but I really don't know...

Salamat tol. I'm as clueless as you are as to what may have caused it. It didn't eat when I fed it today. I opened its mouth after I took it out of the tank to check if something was stuck in it, there was none. The NGT has a tendency to eat every other day or only when it feels like eating. Its funny because there were no signs at all.

Yes, I did do a 50% water change on Wednesday in anticipation for the widebars the next day. In my case, the NGT stopped swimming totally. Its almost like it was frightened. I held it against the current of my Penguin 350 like you said. I only took it out of the water when I noticed that it has stopped breathing and the gill's were no longer moving.

Oh well, I guess its a mystery. I'm just glad that m STs look fine. They are starting to chase the little ones but I don't really mind that. The haven't eaten since Thursday when I picked them up but I'm not too worried now because they are almost of adult size.

Don't worry much on the ST. Those guy are as strong as bears. Besides, they're fat and in good shape. It's only one day, so don't expect they'll eat, especially look like they are well fed from the previous owner. ;) I feel really bad on your NGT, though, since I just mentioned that you'll beg for my NGT... I feel like I jinx you, the bad stuff I picked up from Kai. He has jinxed my fish quite a few time.:irked:

No jinxing for me please or else I'll be devastated, broke, and my brother and sister will probably make fun of me for buying a fish that expensive that dies on me.

Seriously, the previous owner did do a god job raising these two fishes. They are nice and fat and starting to raise hell on my two peacock basses. :D

I guess you know who to call when you decide to part out with one of your NGTs John. Its either me or xcuter, I have a feeling the original owner got first dibs which should always be the case.

By the way, I don't think its the water parameters because I have a round bottom dweller who is as healthy as an ox. She eats any frozen food and as playful as ever. I wish I have the guts to pet it tough.
