From what ive read, its actually quite common and advised to give RTC fruits & nuts as in the wild these cats are omnivores and pretty much take down anything that crosses their path including fruits and nuts that may fall into the water.

How interesting, having kept a red tail or two it never occurred to me to try feeding them anything other than high protein foods but a variety diet seems to be a good thing. Mine liked the usual stuff like live goldfish, earthworms and chunks of beef heart but a favorite treat was Mexican style broiled chicken breasts from Pollo Loco!
