My daughter resently bought a hound dog that loves water. Well after three visits to my house he finally managed to put a hole in my pond. It is a small pond around 150 gallon. I purchased a horse troff (110 gallon) so we could keep the 3 koy fish my wife loves. Here in Idaho it gets cold we usually quit feeding in sept-oct and place a troff heater in the pond for the winter. I keep my garage where the troff is at 40 deg. and I also bought a timer for a shop light. Do I need to feed at that temp and is the lighting enough at 8 hours a day? Any other info on garage ponds would be great.

Get a thermometer, it will tell you when it is safe to feed. Even if the fish may beg for food, don't do it.

Water temps. below 60 require wheat germ based foods. 1-2 X per week.
Water temps. below 50, no food.

They should have fatten up a bit in the fall. If the water is 40's in the garage, no food til spring.
