My LFS had a jelly. Super tempted but I would have to rehome my stock or watch them get eaten.

Not at all. Just add the Jelly, and then walk away.

The other fish will be gone the next morning...but at least you won't have to watch...:)

Did this species' genus recently change?

I saw a name i did not recognize PCF today. they also list this species as getting to around 12". mine has been with me for about 2-3 yrs came in small about 5" and just started to grow at a noticeable rate, maybe around 10"

I've seen a few older articles that put the genus as Pseudopimelodus. All the current stuff seems to use Cephalosilurus.

Maybe thebiggerthebetter thebiggerthebetter Fishman Dave Fishman Dave Yellowcat Yellowcat (off the top of my head) can clarify?

What's PCF?

Planet catfish is PCF and they list the genus as Lophiosilurus

When I google Lophiosilurus I get a completely different fish...Pacman Catfish?

I went to PCF and did see that name used...first time I've seen it. I'll wait for the Catfish Gurus to chime in...:)

Just noticed that the PCF entry shows a "last update" of Dec17/2021! Does that mean that Lophiosilurus is the most recent "correct" name for this fish? Or just that some other bit of data was changed/updated and the name was not addressed at all?

Scientific names are supposed to nail down exactly what species is being discussed...but nowadays they seem to add confusion rather than removing it...:)

I consider PCF to be more scientific in its approach than many forums. like the cichlid room companion i look at it as a source of truth but yes we seem to have ebbs and flows of lumpers and splitters nearly every 5 yrs in some of those species. hopefully we are moving to more DNA related naming instead of just visual similarities ect.
