My Oscar bit me!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hahah, mine does that too! When he sees food he doesn't really jump...but kind of half-jumps.
Yepp..true story.

I don't really know much about the different kind of lids. I already have the black handle strip thingy, so could just get a big piece cut 3/4 of the way up, and put the black thing on there. If that makes any sense :D
What's the importance of a plastic back strip?

Yeah mine "half jumps" too, half clears the surface.

The black strip functions as the hinge allowing you to open the top :)

I think she means the plastic strip that goes along the back bellycrawler. That strip is to block off openings where your fish could jump out and also to keep down evaporation

No, no, I meant the hinge! That's the word I was looking for! I am so bad at expaining things.

&With the plastic back strip, do you just cut it to fit your filter/heaters?

Oh lol...yup you can cut the back plastic strip to fit your filter and heaters although I've never actually had to do it. I run a marineland emperor 400b bio wheel power filter for HOB on my 125g and its big enough to block off most openings and so I just took the plastic back strip off one of the lids and left the plastic back strip on the other two lids...(theres 3 lids for a 125g tank)

Yeah that's what I do, the plastic strips on the back on the glass tops i'm used to are clear plastic as opposed to black, sorry for any confusion

Ahh, I see. I'm in a bit of an internal debate. I'm going to be setting up a sump soon, which means no more heaters/filters. So if I were to buy a new top now then I'd just end up with a big hole where the heaters/filters were...So should I hold off on a new lid for now? It'll still be at least a month, or two, before I get everything set up. And I don't really have a spare $20 laying around for a lid that'll last me a couple months!
