I have had my Oscar for 8 years + now and she has gotten me through some tuff times. She started me in this fish addiction and got me away from my other demons.
Because of my noobie mistakes She was at risk for disease which she got known as HITH. I have been dealing with HITH for the the past 8+ years and I am tired and broke.
I am at the point where I just let her complete her life. I included some pictures to show the deterioration of her head. Its sad to see but I can't get it to go away.

Am I wrong for letting go?

oscars are toughest fish i know,.. she stayed as long as could dont be so down,. if still around i have herd of a weird technique for hol in head? rubbing aspirin on the holes,. crushed up aspirin,. aparently it works,. but i dont suggest that without your own reaserch down,. 2 of my oscars just layed a **** load of eggs,. lol will maybey have lots to sell for cheap

If damage hasn't gotten worse over the last few years, then all that's left are pretty much scars.probably won't heal at this point, but shouldn't get worse if the issues that caused the hith are long resolved

I've seen worse. If she is still eating and not acting weird like knocking her head against rocks and the other decor including the glass, I would just keep a clean tank, good parameters and feed her the best nutrition. Give her live food occasionally like worms and bugs. Be happy for the time you have had. Oscars don't live much past 8 as it is, 10 is considered really good, anymore than 10, kind of rare. I think this fish will live a lot longer if you can stay committed. Stop focusing on the bad, celebrate the good. If it hasn't gotten worse, you can concentrate on providing the best environment.

Updated pics of my O. I dosed for a week with the extra strength melafix. The damage looked bad and looked to get worse but she is active now and it still looks the same other then it doesn't look like it is bleeding.

A fish will show you when its done fighting. She looks okay other than her disease, I'd say do what you can and give her more time, see if it improves more. Shes feeling good enough to look into the camera lens, that must mean something right? If you do eventually have to let her go just know that you've done your best and that she lived a long happy life. Wishing you luck.

Thanx guys. My O is a fighter. There is one more thing to do with the exception to getting injections. I will not be getting injections for my O. I am crazy about my fish but not willing to stress her for that.
