Hello! My name is Lindsey and I need some advice. My boyfriend and I adopted an Oscar about a year ago, he is quite large (10-12''). I am not sure how old he is.

For the last three days he has been uninterested in food. I don't know what's wrong. Any ideas?

We did buy a yonger albino oscar so that he could have a tank mate, but they get along. The albino is faster than teh older oscar and tries to eat ALL the food. I have since seperated them, but he still refuses to eat.

He's probably just stressed from all the recent commotion. he's not used to competing for food, so he may not be compatible with a young oscar.

What are your water parameters?

If he doesn't eat in the next few days, do a water change and try a new food.

He will likely come around and start eating soon :)

usually when changes occur in the environment of an O they tend to sulk for a few days
and when they sulk
they eat less or not at all
they usually lay around in a corner
lot of inactivity
after a few days they usually come around

i wouldn't worry. do a water change. and offer some food in a day or two. i've have had fish that went weeks without eating.

A healthy oscar can miss a few days of food without ill effects.

Welcone to the forum, Lindsey.

As suggested, chances are he's probably sulking. But with the limited information, it's hard to say whether there could be,or whether there is anything wrong. Is he acting "normal" in all other aspect's?

Like Marc said, is he acting normal? It is less active or skittish?

I had a large male GT that stopped eating and just kinda hang around one corner of the tank died within two days. So if he's acting strangely tried doing a water change and maybe raising the temperature alittle.

Hello all. thank you for all your advice. Yes, he is acting normal and I plan to bring a water sample to the fish shop for testing (I don't have testing supply's at my house). We just chanded the water a few days ago.
