he came down with hith in a matter of a week. i didn't stop doing water changes or anything. since he started getting hith i started changing the water every 2 days. now tonite he looks 100 times worse and is trying to jump out of the tank and is hurting himself worse. the water parameters are perfect. the only sign of anything is 5ppm of nitrates. at water changes the parameters are normally the same with 10-15ppm nitrates. never any amonia. I don't understand. could part of it be because he is 13 inches long now and can't hardly turn around in the 55 gallon tank? i was going to swap him into my 75 gallon tonite, but I think the stress would kill him alone.

the 55 gallon might have been a little, too, well little. i would have moved him to a 75 at about 9-10 inches.

Could be partially it. I bigger tank would be better for him.

well i was gonna go look at a 125 gallon tomorrow. is there anything else that could cause it?

it's my mom's fish and she wanted to leave him in the living room. he wasn't happy at 8 inches in there. I wanted to put him in myh 75 gallon when i got it.

If you been feeding him lots of goldfish, dont do it anymore. Goldfish are a cause of HITH, but I also heard cramped tanked help in causing it as well. Bigger tank, good clean water and a good diet are what will help you.
