If you been feeding him lots of goldfish, dont do it anymore. Goldfish are a cause of HITH, but I also heard cramped tanked help in causing it as well. Bigger tank, good clean water and a good diet are what will help you.

haven't fed him a feeder in a while. like 4-8 weeks. i quit after i realized how much waste they produced.

If you feel the HITH is really bad and the fish is on deaths bed, you might wanna look into medicating it.

But only if you feel the fish is in really bad shape.

Also, that jumping behavior is a sign the fish feels cramped. So it needs that bigger tank.

have you been adding salt? i have heard that it helps and i have also heard it could make it worse. If you have been adding salt during the water changes then stop adding it, if you havent been adding salt then start.

well I kept up with that, but I covered half of his tank and he is doing better.

Are you sure its HITH, he might be bouncing his head off the covers and cutting himself. Its very common actually.
