My other eel died; why?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'll be getting a 60gal in the near future, the issue is currently is rehoming a turtle I didn't intend to have for very long in order to leave space for it, and figuring out what to do with the plarge pleco and auratus cichlid that's already in there. Obviously, I can't put the auratus with my BGK, so these thing are halting the progress.

Once I do figure things out though, would I be able to just plop him into the 60gal after acclimating him to it in a bag, without issue? The tank will need to be almost empty for it to be transported with any amount of ease, but maybe if I leave some of the water in it will be okay?

Yeah. I would wait until the new tank cycles before adding anything.

Zero ammonia and zero nitrite. If you leave some gravel or a donor filter from the tank setup you can get a head start on your cycle. You're still looking at a week minimum to be safe.

I found one of the best ways to move fish from one tank to another if possible.. would be to take the filter from the 10 gallon and move it with your BGK to the 60. get a filter rated for a 10x turnover on the 60.. but run the 10's filter along side the new filter for a few weeks. This will help seed your new filter, and avoid any cycling issues. the longer you keep the old filter running with the new one the less likely you are to spike any ammonia ect once it's cycled. I have done this many times when upgrading tank sizes for my fish and rarely had an ammonia spike that was traceable. If you are plannign on useing the old filter on the 60 with the tank ect. I would break it down and give it a thorough cleaning ( no chemicals but rinse everything really good) and i agree the pleco and auratus would be very bad tank-mates for the BGK.

I just realised my eels are curled up on the water pump! Been there for the last 2 days! Oh crap
