Here's the other fish I bought today. I paid $40 for this fish labeled simply as 'motaguensis'. I'm hoping it's a red tiger mota. Can you tell this early, he's about 3". The pics are horrible...it's the best I can get for now.

I cant tell you if its a mota but I can tell you that it is a nice little parachromis.. Gonna be cool watchn this little guy get big!!

It's my first Mota so I don't know if it's odd or normal but I notice his body is long and very narrow from top to bottom. What are you referring to?

It could be a Parachromis Loisellei, there's an absence of markings on the upper body towards the dorsal fin. It's also a little bit thin looking, if it is a Loisellei then it's body will get deeper. Mota's have distinct markings on upper body

males don't have those markings on their gill plates from what i can tell. they have spots along their lateral line
