Yes, the day has finally come for me. As long as i had my male and female pair, they are finally spawning. :nilly:
I can see small little orange/brown eggs scattered throughout the inside of my rock cave where he and she have been swimming around for about a week now!
As many times I've tried to take a picture it is VERY hard because of the angle of my rock setup and the blackwater look of my tank doesn't really help any as well :\

- Here's a few pics i took just now of whats happening. Like I stated, it is very hard to get a clear good pic.

These photos were taking periodically.
- If you look close enough you can see the eggs on the rock.

Edit: I do not have a backup tank for the pair or the fry... and they are in a comm. tank. - Any suggestions???

bump

Im 90% positive i can see the fry starting to move and float around on the rock!

Gratz.

I would leave them alone. Let them do their thing and learn how to parent and protect the fry.

They will surely spawn again and you can get a 10g setup if you want to keep some.

Thanks guys!
- And yea sure enough i'll have to get my 10 gal that i have stored in my garage and get a decent filter so they can survive.

If i don't do anything with them does anyone know what will happen? Im pretty sure my male or female will start killing my other fish in the tank once the fry start to swim on their own...

Mommy and daddy wil eventually eat a good portion. I currently have 2 litters in the tank now. give the babies a place to hide from parent and some may get big. I took the very first batch out and put in a 20. now What do I do with them? :) I am going to do a craigslist maybe or see if lfs will take them.

I just don't have anything setup at the moment and now i can see her taking the fry with her mouth and moving them deeper in the cave i built.
Im guessing she might be the one protecting and the male might eat them later on?
- This is the first time i've witnessed this happen to my pair...

Congrats! Convicts are pretty good parents and if the fry already hatched they won't eat them unless 1. You stress them too much and they figure it's not safe for the fry 2. They breed again in a few weeks and there's not enough space for the second batch... they will make room by eating the older fry.

You might lose a few tankmates depending on your tank size. Convicts become increasingly vicious when the eggs are laid, then when the eggs hatch, and even more when the fry leave the nest. If you have no tankmates, sometimes the male won't be allowed near the fry.
