Just got myself a parrot cichlid from a friend .
Noticed it has longer fins than other parrot ciclid pictures i see ?

Any comments? He's in a 300 Gallon tank with some severums and an arowana.

Are they the same kind?

Honestly, that (to me) doesn't look a thing like a parrot. It looks closer to a severum. I have 10 parrots, and none look anything close to that.

blood parrot is not a parrot, its a mutant

They must look like a parrot to be called as parrot. ;)
In my opnion they are some hybrid severum.

Well I guess somebody has to do it.... Hoplarchus psittacus

Then you don't have "parrot cichlid". You have hybrids.

Hoplarchus and Heros are relatively closely related genera, so you are not completely wrong.

Large Hoplarchus psittacus do look like parrots (the bird), their snout gets a curved look to it. They have had the common name for decades, long before those fake blood parrots were even created.
