well people said give it about a month and my pbass would stop freaking out...but its been a month give or take...the problem is everytime i get close to it....the pbass freaks out and like runs away and when i am trying to feed it freezed dried blood worms it like runs left and right of the tank...they are normal when noone is around when i walk close or near my take they freaking trip! plz help me out....i think the people at my lfs did something to these guyz now they are all freaked out....:swear:

Have you got any cover in your tank?

What are tankmates?

I was worried the 1st time i got mine too, they chill out and start to eat after a while, I got scared when they didn't eat for a week, few live fish and now they are hand fed.

Lol I am not ugly xD....anyways well its a 60 gallon tank...its bare bottom...tank is about 80 to 82 degrees....no tank mates yet I was thinking about getting some tiger oscars or rtcs...and there are 4 monos in there give or take 3 to 4 inches? Also they eat only when no one is around...like if I put some freeze dried bloodworms....and then I sit on the couch next to the tank then it takes like 30 seconds before they start eating the bloodworms....but the only problem I am having is that they freak out when people are close to the tank...they swim left to right super quick...this is getting me worried and also the water is clean I try to do wc every week...and if not every other week but the water is clean....you can see from one side to the other with ease....so iono what to do now...plz help...thanx

It sounds like they are just not comfortable in that tank, and I may know why: Get some gravel or sand in there. Not much is necessary, just enough to cover the bottom. A bare tank bottom causes a lot of reflections and can spook the fish!

Also make sure you have some places for them to hide; bog wood, rocks, plants.

How about the lighting? Is your tank super bright? This could help spook them especially with the bare tank bottom. If this is the case, try some floating plants (real or plastic).

Hang in there. You just need to figure out what is got them so uncomfortable. My PBass follow me around as I walk by the tank, eat from my hands, and are very much like Oscars in temperament and behaviour (if you have ever had Oscars you will know what I mean).

There is nothing wrong with your fish, you just need to figure out what has them spooked!

Good Luck, and keep us posted.

By the way.... Oscars make good tank mates for PBass, but you should avoid the RTC! They will grow very fast and eat your PBass and eventually the Oscar if you get one.

I assume you are planning on a bigger tank? 60 gal. is not enough for PBass, especially if you add an Oscar. :)

Alright I might pick up some stuff....I ma try to pick up an oscar or 2....and yes I am just trying to grow them out of the 60 before changing them out into a bigger tank....I am going to try to pick up some gravel and some driftwood...but iono what floating plants are good any ideas? And also I don't want it to be a lot cuz when I give them freezed dried blood worms they only eat it when my filter pushes them down then they eat it...only one of them eat it when they are on top of the water....the other one only eat it when the bloodworms are near the middle and starts to rise up to the top again...thanx

i'm gonna agree with ozkar on this.. my oscars and pbass got along great until we added the arowana.. the pbass, oscars, RTC and angel fish were great together. should have left things the way they were.. lol.

but i had to have my arowana, she was the most beautiful one in the tank and i couldn't walk away.. so she came home with us.. bad me.

a couple weeks later the oscars decided that Pinky was lunch and tried to shred her. so we made a large refugium for Pinky and bought 2 more large aquariums. Now the angelfish are in the 75 gal and the oscars are in the 100 gal with the RTC and Pinky is in the big tank with the pbass and the snooks (also new additions).

Pull out all the decor and only ;et them eat while you are right there feeding.. IF they do not eat, Pull the food with a net and try again in a couple hours.. If this doesn't go over.. Let them think about it for a few dfays... NO FEEDING.. Are you feeding them Live?? IF not, Start. But still only leave the food in while you are right there.. ONCE again PULL ALL if any DECOR out!! Do not let them have any where to hide :)
