Decor is any decorations... And no I don't think it is Harsh.. Do you want to enjoy your fish or do you like feeding an empty tank :) Trust me It works for most every fish.. I just did it with my new baby Pbass growouts :) I haven't kept this species as long as some ... But I have had them for over a year now and just like I said got some new ones recently..

Now here is an example... You always here about POOR souls that cannot ever see their fish as they hide too much.... RIGHT?? You are right now in that category :(

I am not in that category not with ANY of my fish for a over 10 years now... :)

Your fish will be more stressed the longer you let them decide what and when they are going to do what ever they want! So you pull the Decrations you leave NOWHERE for them to hide and you make sure there is some kind of traffic at least periodically in the room they are in.. And most important YOU MAKE THEM KNOW YOU ARE THE HAND THAT FEEDS THEM :)

Give it another month with these suggestions and let us know how it's going :) I am thinkin at most 2 months they should be screaming to the top when you get near the tank :) And the 2 months is with EXTREMELY fidgety fish :)

My WILD Pbass I just got two months ago do not hide from me at all!! For now they still have NO decor in the tank. They do have a growout Silver arow who at 7" already eats from my hands and also came extremely SHY!!! :)

So what do you think do you wanna see your fish or just feed a tank that you don't even get to see EAT :( :) It's worth a try :) just a few simple suggestions :)

This of course is my own personal Experience and Opinion :)

As an option to adding the gravel (which I mentioned earlier), someone on here had a great idea and used ceramic tiles to cover the tank bottom!

It looks great, like a natural stone bottom (kind of like a slate bottom). I will try to find a link.

This member said they didn't like the gravel because they felt it was keeping the Nitrate higher in their tank, even with regular gravel cleaning. I have never tried it, but it looks cool. You may want this as an option since you don't have any gravel in there now.

Found it! Here's the link: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68219
Look at the tank bottom in his Lenticulata pike photos.... Sweet! There is also some discussion in the thread about the tiles, I didn't even notice until it was mentioned by someone else. I guess I was too busy looking at the fish.

I agree with letting fish get hungry, and forcing them to feed only when you are at the tank. Hunger is a powerfull motivator, and will help them get used to you.

But I disagree with removing all gravel and decorations. Some fish would never get comfortable in a completely bare tank, and consequently would never show good coloration or normal behaviour. This kind of potential stress could then lead to stress related disease, or injuries from the fish "freaking out" whenever something passes the tank. Don't get me wrong, this method probably works with some species, but I think it is "harsh" also, and would not work with all fish. Plus, I like having some decorations in the tank (I like the natural tank look best). Just my opinion.:)

hmm the tile idea is pretty neat...but if i have to cut it i will just leave it bare bottom...cuz i dont have the equipment to cut it....and that gravel sounds like a problem i ll just keep it bare bottom for now cuz its easier to clean and you can see what your picking up instead of putting a tube through the gravel and playing "find the poop" hehe...but i ll take out the decors tomorrow...cuz i dont have anytime today...sigh 7 page essay yesterday (lost 3 pages front and back which make its 6 pages total and had to rewrite it yesterday untill 4am...then i had a cst testing (4 hour test for math portion) and now i have to write a 4 page research paper about vietcong training (due first thing tomorrow) fkin school....

he already has a bare bottom and we are tlaling about Cichla so some species is what they would be included in :) :) Which are pretty much the equivelent or times ten the personality of Oscars :) Also need much swimming space.. But opinions do differ :)

Also the Decoration msising is ONLY temporary :0 once your fish are accustomed to you and being out in the open then you add what ever you want and they still in my experience stay out in the open just woudl have some getaway when needed. :) I should have touched on that a littl more descriptively:)

No he converts to pellets and other foods as well as live:) He only video tapes Live feedign :) Other than the convert off live training video :)

I'm sure if you pm him he will tellyou what he feeds :)
