Looks stunning man. I feel the same way about mine. Always trying to get infront of the camera. Hes starting to get a little more aggressive too.
Thanks jaws. My guy is only aggressive with decorations(a real tough guy).

Thats a beautiful fish brother !

Do you feel these are more intelligent than others ? I do... atleast compared to other cichlids i have kept. Im not into overthinking certain behaviors our fish have and applying human traits to them but certain things do make me "damn how did he just figure that out"

I thought this especially when i used to have the feeding battles with him and more recently i swear the fish recognizes different members of our family. You know lately ive been stumped by his behavior (acting wierd like hes scared of something)

The past year ive had to net him a bunch of times... the past couple of months he was netted 3 times (equipment failures and moving the tank, and thats when the behavior started. When ever im near the tank he plays the back wall slowly shying away and watching my every move. Last night my kids were messing around with him and he was going nuts wagging his tail and what not i walk up tonthe tank and he immediately stops and starts to cower... i must have did he 5 times and got the same reaction. My heterospilus doesnt do this.

Lol sorry for rambling just wanted your take since we discussed his change in mood

I agree they are pretty smart. I have my pearsei in with my peacock bass and you can just see how differently they think from each other. My pearsei is patient and calculating, and has definitely done some things that had me trying to figure out how he did it. And I agree they do recognize different people, my group of peacock bass would recognize different people also.

I don't think that he remembers you netting him, it's just fish instinct to be scared of people. He was just used to you before and has to get comfortable again. If anyone comes over my house to visit my fish cower, but when its just my family my fish beg and want to play. For some reason my fish always accept my kids before anyone else idk why but they do. My umbee used to play all day long with my daughter, he would chase her from one end of the tank to the other. But he would try to kill me for coming near the tank lol.
