I find flourite to be better than eco-complete. Black sand gravel will offer no nutritional benefit to the plants, where flourite and eco-complete will. The focus of a planted tank is not the substrate (it should be covered anyway by plants). The focus lies in the plants themselves.

So are you that plants won't grow in Black Tahitian Moon or its just not the ideal Substrate to use but they will grow? Sorry I am new to the plant area of the hobby. Thanks for the help.
