Had this fish for close to 3 years now. Juries out on gender, but i believe female. But nevertheless Sean Bean has earned a place in my heart and will always get my best efforts.

Ive no doubt this fish knows me, understands my body language, and communicates with me in turn. Ive kept her in tanks ranging from 40 to 150 gallons, but theres no doubt shes at her best in the 150, especially now that shes a solid 11".

I always appreciate the exotic, WC large male amphs i see on MFK a lot. But ive been very impressed with this female mutt amph from down the street petsmart. Thanks for reading!

Love that piece of wood you have in the tank with her, imo it could become ever better if your had just a couple more pieces of that same kind of wood to throw in the tank. Either way looks like a nice happy and healthy midevil to me. Keep up the good work.

I do have a couple more smaller pieces. I really prefer to keep it more open for swimming space. If my tank was 6-12" wider i would definitely enhance the scaping.

Very cool! Ive been working on an amphilophus community tank which includes hoga, Sagittae, true midas and my favorite are my Petsmart mutts.

Yeah ive been following along. Amph communities are some of the most impressive tanks i wish you luck as i know they are challenging. Sean bean has been, shall we say, rather murderous to any other tankmates but i was able to keep a big male FH with her for a few months.

I always wonder what will happen to fish like this when I see a tank full of them at a chainstore. I doubt many will end up being purchased by someone who can look after them properly. I've had amateur friends put a large aggressive cichlids in a community tank flush them once they start causing a ruckus.
Nice to see one has been given a long happy life and cared for well.

Yes my thoughts exactly. No doubt this fish has frustrated me at times, and i can even testify to the flushing sentiment at one time or another. But its hard for me to accept that this fish's life isnt as valuable as any other, especially when it behaves in such a darling manner.

Im not saying ive been the best--ive kept this fish in a plastic tote for weeks on end simply because i was pressed for tank space and she would murder my other fish. Scooped her up off the floor half a dozen times including one rescue by my cat...theres just too much intrigue in her story now to consider a flushing...and too little monetary value to consider a selling!
