Well, here it is a few years on and still going strong. Even if it's had bit of a rough ride she's still looking happy and healthy and got a nice big tank all to herself. Much more preferable than some of the alternatives.
It's nice that you have developed a bond despite all the hassles.
The long term commitment is one of the reasons I've never had a big fish, even though I want to at least once grow a monster from a baby, just to do it., the other reason is the bare tank you need to keep them in. Not criticising your tank but I've always preferred rocks and plants and with a monster it's a recipie for disaster.

Just picked up one of these myself. Looking forward to seeing how he/she develops

Lots of potential there. About two years back i picked up a beauty of a piebald male and attempted to pair him with sean bean in a 75. I thought it was going well for a couple days then i came in and oops, he's eviscerated.

It helps that this fish is receptive of almost any food i give her. I have another little hybrid now and have had other wet pet types that have been so frustrating just because of their stubbornness to feed. Picky eating may be the one single thing that annoys me most about a particular fish...and people too for that matter.

I couldn't say how she would do with plants. She used to jam herself into a big fake plant i used to have, sort of hold her in a suspended state while sleeping. So it might be something she'd enjoy.

Truth be told my tanks are in a state of flux right now, and all of them are pretty bare in preparation for some rearranging. Mastery of artful scaping is admittedly not of my repertoire, but i hope to do something permanent and attractive one day.

Anyways, im daydrinking and articulating too much. Cheers.
