My Pimelodus blochii

Remember to measure to the base of a caudal fork with fish that have forked tails. This is the right scientific way of measuring total length to report in articles. Hair splitting here, perhaps 0.5" but can be significant with other fish.
I do that and there is no way my big guy is 13" :
9-9.5" SL + 3" forked tail and his longevity bonus ;)

Well, we'll wait for you to play with your 4-line cat on the carpet, like Fishnatics does in his spare time :)

On the one hand I didn't want to be the one to burst your bubble on the 13" claim but the other part of me wanted to be wrong and held out hope :) It still does!

, I've kept four lines since the 80s and he is easily the biggest I've ever owned, here he is next to the 6" pictus (4.5 sl +1.5"tail)

Wow. You've been keeping them for three quarters of my life and I am 45!

Haha good one but he flipped out of my hand and ended up there so I figured why not just leave him there and measure him quickly.

Sure. Why not. There was no hidden message in my joke :) They are hardy fish, a carpet-crawl-and-growl session is no biggie for them or so it seems. They can go back to feeding right after IME.

You hold them in your hand? Are you an iron man? They poke hard and so readily and painfully.

I get it though. I hate to use a net on them too. A hard plastic or a styrofoam cup or a plastic kitchen strainer is what I resort to. My wife "digs" it when I borrow her kitchen stuff and muck it up in fish feces and slime.

I usually try too hold them behind the pectoral fins but in this case he didn't like it and flopped out. I wouldn't dare hold a Raphael or irwinni behind the pectoral fins though.
