I'm not too sure what filter I'm going to be using. I do know I want to use sand and not gravel which takes away the possibility of having an UGF. Probably 3 or 3 above surfaces.
 
I won't recommend UGF, it uses substrate as filter media and once it's clogged you will need to remove EVERYTHING to clean it. for small tank it might be ok but a big one it'll be a pain.
one or two large canister filters or wet/dry will be good. I had great experience with FX5, some other members use Ehiem some use Rena XP series.
