so I woke up the other morning before work to find one of my large male festaes had started beating up his female after they had been guarding fry for a couple of months together. Luckily I caught it in time and removed the male and placed him in a 40gal breeder which was housing 1 5in male islantum and some exodons.. I placed the islantum in my 100gal w/ my kelberi, temporalis, festae, adonis pleco and planiceps. I came home from work that night and there was no sign of the islantum, the planiceps inhale him HOLE. I didnt realize he could swallow something that size because he is so slender, but now I do he looked like a blimp. He only about a foot, what a monster.

thats awesome! but kinda sucks

Don't underestimate Planiceps, being longer means they can take down fish of pretty large size. They grow huge when their adults.

I thought exodons were pretty vicious...but your islantum met its real end from the true predator. Bad for the islantum though, they are a nice cichlid.

I found that out the hard way also when I purchased a Planicep around 4 inches long and put him in a tank with fishes I thought he couldn't eat. Well he swallowed a Cory Barbadus who was half his size.

thats actually a hydrolycus scomberoides, not vampire tetra, and beautiful planiceps, one of my favorites and dream cats.
