- death pony,I will try and get names later,Im not gonna remember them all, lol.I got some great books though, and the bamboo stuff was about 2 feet tall when I got it and I transplanted it just for it all to almost die.So I put it in the sun and they like to be constant wet-marshy so its growing again,I hear it spreads like wildfire so if you dont want it all over then a pot is a must.If you damage the top of one or cut it,that stem will die.
- Even if you just pick off dead growth on the tops.Best to just soak it and leave it alone. My first one.The juniper was a giant bush that I pruned over time down to that,I like lots of bare branching like the trees on the sea cliffs.Be very careful with bonsai, watering is important because you use little soil so it dries out fast, after pruning you open up spots for the plant to leak moisture and also leave wounds for infection form bugs or disease.Certain times of year are better for root trimming and transplanting and other times of year for top pruning.
- Best feeling is getting getting a big mess of a hardy juniper from a box store or nursery and working from underneath to eliminate ugly or any branches that are keeping it from looking like a tree.Your trying to make a plant look like an aged old tree with character. Each plant is different and some hate pruning and some you cant kill.If you prune too much it looses too much moisture and also may get shock and die.Depending on your city you can figure how much sun or shade because its way hot here so I need to watch out.Small bonsai style pots overheat fast,I tend to use those little bit bigger ones. The one in the black pot needs a real pot.Thought it would look good in a shallow pot,I most likely will use one simaler in the size it has.Im afraid to loose it since I love that one.
- Here are some great sites.Join bonsai forums because they are great ppl and lots of info and fun.The other one hase some great vids to help you start out.I have soom good books so you can ask me if you need.I just started this stuff last year but I havnt gone all out yet.You learn the hard way alot with bonsai, you learn what tpo use and what not to use because some plants are for the pros.Unless you have time to dedicate every day then dont get too many at first. It is very rewarding when it works.DOnt buy from a lot that looks like they just prunned it and potted it.If so,be sure to keep on the watering.See im in a hot ars town so its harder here.
