Bamboo lives 1-3 years fully submerged, by then though, it will have grown out the back part of the tank where the filter attaches and it will no longer be fully submerged Ive had live bamboo underwater for a few years now with no problems

Most swords aren't true aquarium plants.

LOL... where did you hear that? Echinodorus are true aquatic, but like many aquatic plants they may grow in shallow water with their leaves above water, but they grow equally well underwater indefinetly, for years and years.
