cheers col
sure, no probs
it scared the **** outta me actually.
i just finished doing a water change and had just put the last bucket of water in the tank, i was walking back to the sink and heard a splashing and thrashing sound at the top of the tank, i turned round quickly to see the pleuro sinking slowly and sort of writhing in pain, then his head and gill region began to inflate to around 3-4 times the normal size, i actually thought his head was going to pop. then he stopped writhing and became motionless, turned on his back and sank fast to the bottom of the tank and just lay there with NO movement, then his head and gills returned to normal size. i was convinced he was dead, so i scooped him out the tank and took a good look at him, measured him etc and was just about to flush him when i saw the tiniest of fin movements, could have just been a muscle twitch, but i stopped and took a closer look, then i saw a tiny little mouth movement so i rushed him back to the tank.
i had to hold him in the water, if i let go he would just sink and turn upside down again, so i supported him with my hand and tried to get the current flowing past his gills and bubbles from the airstone into his mouth, he started to show a few more signs of life so i wasnt gonna give up on him, even tho there was no body movement yet. then..lol i took him out of the water and opened his mouth, coz i realised they breath our air so keeping him constantly submerged would not help, so i gently blew air down his throat then quickly returned him to the water, air bubbles started to slowly come out of his mouth and his breathing got stronger and gave a couple of twitches with his body. so after about 2 mins i repeated that about 2 more times and the last time he came round and bit my lip lol. then he got his body movement back but he was very weak and struggled just against the current of the filter. after about 2 hours of keeping a close eye on him his swimming got stonger and he became more like himself again. (btw even his eyes went a funny shape)
it took about 3 days after to fully recover, but what a strong fish. a millimetre away from death and survived. he is now back to his normal self and seems more aggro than before. btw he was eating again the next day lol
the only things i can think of is either
1 he drowned himself by not coming up for air when i was doing the water change
or
2 i did do a slightly larger change than normal and the sudden drop and lower drop in temperature could have triggered it
crazy ****, im glad i saw that little twitch tho, coz he would have been swimming with the **** right now
