Yep, another reason for burrowing, but most commonly (and most likely in this case) just trying to hide itself.

I have bichirs in gravel, and they never burrow like that unless something is stressing them out. Like the last time I had anchor worms.. just a thought. Mine never burrow, but I do have plenty of driftwood.
 
Ya they are in it's natural hunting made. dels are some of the few polpterus that like to ambush prey ( aren't their stripe pattern like a tiger)?? Never seem my delhezi do that before ( i have a sand substrate).
