My Polys, African Knife and guests... To dinner!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I usually have good luck adding new fish into my tank. The worst that happens is the ctenos touch their noses to the bag while new fish are acclimating. When I put the african knife in at 2" I was certain it would become a snack for my 14" ornate. 2 months later the knife is pushing 4" with no problems.

Damn! I have 2" African brown knife right now and there's no way I would even think about putting it in with my polys! It'd be a snack for sure since the 3 biggest ones are 16", 14" and 12".

Looking good, The rope fish will come around it looks interested just unsure , ropes are always more timid eaters but never take long to give in and try a new food.

I like the Ctenopoma as well, debating these for my tank with the smaller bichirs and rope fish bit i think the Datnoids growing out in there would pick on them. They will probably replace the Dat's when they move up to the next tank!

Good mix!

Thanks, Devon!
The Rope Fish is very selective with the industrialized food, but eats very well live food offered (insect larvae and earthworms) and frozen (like shrimp, bloodworms and fish fillet).
The Ctenopoma is a wonderful fish. Do not have the grandeur of a Dat, but it has its charm ... And that's what fit in my tank:thumbsup:.
Bye!

Very nice stock! I had a cten in my grow out with an IT Dat and the dat bullied the hell out of it. So I put my cten in my main tank, and now the cten is harassing the balzani geo, orino pbass and tf barb. Don't underestimate these guys, they are pretty tough. Mines at about 4 inch

Hows the size difference? I have a 12-14 inch ropefish and the cten leaves him alone, he does bother the Balzani Geo a bit though. Nothing serious, he just kind of pokes at him and the orino pbass. Hes a great teacher fish, had my Dat eating pellet after a couple days with him in the growout.

I dont think any issues should arise, although i have never kept a jewel so im not too sure on that

Youll enjoy him for sure, i love how they just kind of go like "leaf" when they feel threatened haha
