Thats exactly what Im shooting for. Thats why I have been taking a reduction in number of fish.
Thats why im leaning away from big active cichlids. Probably just the het maybe another smaller one but thats it. Group of polys and loaches should be it...and the largest sump i can manage
I still want that upper movement and I already have the fish so it a matter of choosing the keepers. Pearsei stays and maybe the het. The regani is a trouble maker and the snook can out eat the pearsei so one or both might go. Since there is zero issue with the het and pearsei Im think to keep them and add a larger bala to replace little Bruce that was eaten. Im also getting to be a bichir snob and not liking my cb teugelsi... lol
My one PBB was an axe murderer. He was extremely territorial to other bichers and fish alike. I finally decided he needed to go when he killed my big tropical gar.
My current PBB is about what you''d expect aggression-wise. His eating habits are frustrating though. He'll eat like a heathen for weeks on end, then stop eating altogether for a week or two. Still trying to figure this out. Its certainly not water quality related as my nitrates don't even reach 40ppm before a water change. I'm thinking he's not fond of the bright, well-lit tank he's in now. My next tank will have a black background and dark substrate/tile so I'll have the chance to prove/disprove my theory.
I think PBBs are just brutes.
Mine literally dictates my water changes. I like to do large water changes, over 50% if I can, but he HATES it and will start to jump and flail until I start filling back up, almost on queue. He is the only one of my current Bichirs that do this.
So what about the other 2 brutes ansorgii and congi. What are they like compared to pbb.
Honest im tired of all the aggression b.s kind of why i lost interest in CA.
None of my bichirs are aggressive. The PBB just doesnt like water changes I guess.
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I have never had a large lower jawed poly show any aggression at all. The only aggression I have even seen come from bichirs was an old pair of 22" Ornates I had a few years ago and that was mild at best.
That particular PBB is the only bicher I've ever had that was actually a problem.
