SHE just had this big batch of fry 44 of them babies... thats the biggest one we've had so far. this was her 4th batch the last 2 times we have stripped her fry and put her back in the tank and she did great last time but this time she got beat up, not sure if it was by the male OB peacock or another female but she is in bad shape!! looks like internal injuries. I was thinking of giving her a bath in aquarium salt and or pimafix but not sure if that will stress her to death or could it save her? I have moved her in with the fry and she seems to be doing better at the moment..

She was probably weak from all those fry! That is alot of fry to carry in your mouth for almost 3 weeks!

Isn't it melafix for the injuries? This is touchy you never know if it's going to do more harm than good especially when you can't ascertain the extent of the injuries.

Salts probably won't hurt but will help fight off external infection, I am not knowledgable with pimafix, also not sure that salt will cure anything internal.

Last I read tetracycline was for internal infections but I've never had to use it.

Just keep her in a separate tank with lots of waterchanges for awhile.Clean water is the best medicine ;)

Thanks everybody for your suggestions, now I don't know what to do she's lying on her side and breathing rapidly, is she gonna die? I feel so bad for her....

That's usually a bad sign. Have you put the salt treatment in at least? Make sure there's a lot of O2 as well (a venturi powerhead to move water around and push air in the treatment tank would be ideal).

I hope she makes it. Do the salt and Melafix treatment and water changes (30-50%) daily.

Pimafix and melafix are both excellent medicines, but they are very strong. I wouldn't use either until she's up and swimming around. If I were you I'd take the water temperature to about 80, put an air stone or two in the tank and see what happens (use some aquarium salts too). You want to raise the water temperature because it's harder for bacteria and stuff to grow in warmer water (80 degrees won't kill stuff, but it'll slow down anything). Don't feed her until she's up and around either. The food could actually stress her and will lower the water quality.

Good luck.
Clean water can really make a difference. I have an OB zebra that took a nasty beating. She was barely alive when i pulled her out of the main tank. I did 50%-70% water changes daily and watched the wounds carefully for any sign of infection. They started looking a little fuzzy so I treated with melafix and continued the water changes. That was about 2 weeks ago and now she's swimming and eating normally. Once her tail grows back she'll be ready to go back in the main tank. Sometimes they can make a full recovery. These guys are fighters
