SHE just had this big batch of fry 44 of them babies... thats the biggest one we've had so far. this was her 4th batch the last 2 times we have stripped her fry and put her back in the tank and she did great last time but this time she got beat up, not sure if it was by the male OB peacock or another female but she is in bad shape!! looks like internal injuries. I was thinking of giving her a bath in aquarium salt and or pimafix but not sure if that will stress her to death or could it save her? I have moved her in with the fry and she seems to be doing better at the moment..

Congratz on the new babies. You've got great little mommy there who can hold a lot of babies. DO NOT LOSE HER. She's a keeper in my book.

I have a female Red Empress who has held 30-40 babies 3 times in the past 5 months. I love her, so I try to protect her no matter what. A female like that is hard to come by.

Nevertheless, try to not placing her back in with other males until she has been feed and fattened properly. Remember, she has not eaten in over 3 weeks holding the babies.

If you have a medicine tank put her in there if her injuries are pretty bad and Melafix is the best stuff for damaged fins. Put a lot of air in the tank, so pump in tons of it. The more the oxygen the better. You can keep her with her babies for couple of weeks, but after that she begins to get frustrated because the babies will begin to pick at her and feed off of her body. Do not put melafix with the babies, OK.

Good luck, if you have any other questions PM me.

Not sure I agree 100% w/ all the advice being given............seems to me major water changes esp. 80% daily is gonna cause alot of unessessary stress on the fish and the cycle. Guess it all depends on how much food she's eating but most sick fish don't eat. No food, cycle starts to breakdown, too frequent water changes and no food cycle starts to breakdown faster.Cycle breaksdown ammonia takes over.

Also bacteria very much likes warmer temps so much so that it's metabolic rate increases speeding up it's life cycle.........the exception being the boiling point well boiling hot water and fish don't mix. If untreated bacteria will breed in higher temps at an uncontrolable rate.

I like the powerhead inclusion for surface aggitation and an air-wall wand for increased O2 while medicating and beyond.

Congrats on the new children...hope she makes a full recovery. :)
