My poor little RTC...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Came home from work yesterday to find my needlefish dead. He had a brown spot just behind his gill and another on top of his head. My Oscar wont eat, his entire bottom jaw is brown, and he will barely move from the bottom. My blood parrot seemed to be ok, he was swimming around but has black spots all over him. My RTC appears to be OK. He's breathing normal, isnt very active(but he never has been). He didnt eat yesterday and today I put a piece of shrimp right next to him. He didnt eat it at first but then he ate it after it sat there a while.

The only things I can think of that started this ordeal could have been

1. Overfeeding of krill shrimp which I just switched to when this mess started.
2. My girlfriend spraying her fake tanning stuff in the room with the fan on and some of it getting into the water and poisoning my fish.

Either way, she is no longer allowed to use hairspray, tanning, anything that sprays in the room and I'm switching to sinking pellets.

Just in case you are still reading. Ammonia is at about 1 PPM now and dropping. I also discovered a problem with the filter in which much of the water was just overflowing back into the tank. Unsure if this water was filtered at this point or not but I believe that it was so probably not a big deal. My Oscar and blood parrot and swimming around and healthy again. My RTC is eating and appears to be back to his normal, but lazy condition. Thanks everyone for your support through this ordeal. While Im not completely out of the woods yet, things are looking bright.

Well I'm glad to hear it's starting to get under control...sorry for the other losses though. :(

When I was working at a lfs in college, we lost a TON of fish from our system because a maintenance guy left paint thinner near the airline intake...almost whiped out the whole system. :irked:
