Ive also heard givingife fish is bad for that reason. So ive never fed my fish that. Live food also increases the fishes agression levels. I just got an oscar a week ago and he's eating like a piggy. Hes the only fish that will take food out of my hand therefore hes my fav out of the tank 
I feed flakes every morning and pellets at night. Sometimes ill feed shrimp pellets, krill, peas, or cucumber. I try to do all of those once a week on diff days to keep it varied. Also did you quarantine your oscar? I didnt and unfortunately it turned out he has ich so im treating my tank -.- lesson learned tho lol
